Le Secrétariat Cospas-Sarsat est l’organe administratif permanent du Programme International Cospas-Sarsat et assiste le Conseil Cospas-Sarsat dans l’exercice de ses fonctions concernant la gestion du Programme : organisation des réunions, support administratif, documentation du Système et liaison avec la communauté internationale. 

Le Secrétariat emploie actuellement 9 personnes [pour joindre le Secrétariat].  Le personnel du Secrétariat fournit une expertise et un soutien technique et opérationnel aux pays et organisations qui participent au Programme ainsi qu’aux utilisateurs sur des sujets tels que l’état du Système, les spécifications et exigences de performance, l’approbation de type des balises et l'enregistrement de balises, l’exploitation des segments terrestre et spatial ainsi que la distribution des alertes.
